When 'Crimson Star' is crossed with the treelike A.somalense somalense, the results are sometimes very good, producing tall caudiciform plants with bright red flowers. The hybrids tend to bloom sporadically in winter and spring like the somalense parent. They are also very sensitive to cold, wet conditions.
